Hour of Code
We live in a world surrounded by technology. And we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly hinge on understanding how technology works. But only a tiny fraction of us are learning computer science, and less students are studying it than a decade ago.
That’s why our entire school is joining in on the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week (Dec. 8-14). Last year, 15 million students tried computer science in one week. This year, we're joining students worldwide to reach 100 million students!
Our Hour of Code is a statement that Live Oak Elementary is ready to teach these foundational 21st century skills. To continue bringing programming activities to our students, we want to make our Hour of Code event huge. I am interested in recruiting you and your business to come volunteer one day during Computer Science Education Week to help inspire our students.
See http://hourofcode.com for details, and help spread the word. If you are interesting in helping please contact our ITS Jesse Sosa by email or phone at (512) 428-3811.
KidsVision Brings 20/20 Vision to Live Oak Students
The Kids Vision CTX van will be visiting Live Oak on Thursday, December 11 during the school day. The mobile clinic is a one-stop shop for students to get the vision assistance they need. Each student in Kinder, 1st, 3rd and 5th grades will receive a consent packet. Parents need to complete and return the orange consent confirmation page in order for their child to participate. If we get 100% return on all grades, Live Oak will receive $1,000!! For each class that gets 100% of orange consent forms returned, that teacher will receive a $20 gift card!
Students in the free/reduced lunch program, who have no vision insurance and who complete the vision screening will be fitted with a pair of glasses that day, if possible, or within a few weeks of the screening. This is a free service to all qualified students.
Please help us get 100% participation! For more information, please contact Nurse Mary by email or phone at (512) 428-3804.
Dear 4th and 5th grade families,
On Thursday, December 11, all 4th and 5th graders will present the “Groovy-O’Rama” in the Live Oak cafeteria during school and in the evening at 6p. Of course, all parents of performers are invited to attend. This is a DATE CHANGE!
The Groovy O’rama will have far out examples of the music of the 1960s and how they affected popular culture, especially music and dance. All students will sing and dance, and there will be opportunities for individual speaking parts and singing solos. Students are encouraged to dress sixties-style on that day. Please make sure that what you wear that day is appropriate to the decade. I know you as parents will have some way hip ideas!
If your scholar accepted a part in the Groovy O’rama, they must be available for both the daytime and evening performances on Thursday, December 11th. Everything you and your scholars need to know are also on my website. https://sites.google.com/a/roundrockisd.org/live-oak-music-class-rocks/
