KLOE Broadcast Club

About: Students in grades 4-5 are invited to help run Live Oak’s morning broadcast. They are the faces and creators of the news and content that gets delivered to every classroom, every morning!
Live Oak Techies Technology Club
Contact: Jesse Sosa, Instructional Technology Specialist
About: Students in grades 3-5 are eligible to apply to be in the Live Oak Techies. We meet once a week during school to work on computer science topics. Coding, 3D Printing and Game Design are a few topics that we cover.
Choir
Contact: Becky Knox, Music Teacher
About: Choir is open to all fourth and fifth graders. There will be a Tuesday group and a Thursday group. We perform at Veteran’s Day and have a spring concert. Some fifth graders will be chosen to sing at the PAC with students from Deer Park and McNeil.
Art Club
Contact: Sylvia Sykula, Art Teacher
About: Live Oak Art Club is a fun opportunity for 4th and 5th grade students to work on extended art projects in a small group setting. We focus on drawing, painting and clay projects, as well as community building through the arts.
Art Club will meet on Tuesday and Thursday after school from 3:00-4:00, starting the Fourth week of September and will continue until late spring of 2015. Students will get to choose their day so as not to conflict with choir (also offered Tuesday and Thursday). Both days will be limited to 25 students. Students may discontinue Art Club after the completion of their project or continue based on number of interested students and open spots.
Parents will be responsible for making weekly transportation arrangements for their child. As the school office closes at 4:00, it is important that someone be available to pick up the students at the designated time for safety reasons.
There is a participation fee ($10.00) associated with Art Club, if that is a burden for some families, please just contact me and we will make arrangements to circumvent this fee. The cost covers t-shirts (new this year!) and an end-of-year pizza party. This fee also helps to defray the cost of materials and supplies used throughout the year. Please do not turn it in with the Art application. Checks can be made payable to Live Oak Art Club and will be collected at the first Art Club meeting.
Students interested in joining Art Club will need to return the completed application, signed by themselves, their parent and teacher to Ms. Sykula as soon as possible. Applications will be handed out the week of September 12, 2016 and will be due by end of day the following Monday, September 19th.
Students will be notified the following week regarding their acceptance into Art Club. Remember: Art Club is limited to 50 people, 25 on Tuesday and 25 on Thursday.
Student Council
Contact: Stephanie Legg, 3rd Grade Teacher
About: Students in grades 3-5 are elected by their classmates to represent Live Oak’s Student Council. The Student Council has monthly after school meetings in which students plan activities to make a positive impact on the school and community. Some activities have been a fundraiser for charity, passing out Valentines to a nursing home, planting trees at a local park, and spreading school spirit.

STEMScouts

About: The goal of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Scouts program is to help our students grow in character and skills as they explore their curiosity about STEM fields. While the program focuses on future careers in STEM, it is ultimately designed to be challenging, thought provoking, and, most importantly, fun.
