Live Oak and the Jr. Botball Challenge

Students in Mrs. Marvin’s 5th grade class at Live Oak Elementary have been learning how to code with the Junior Botball program this spring semester. They were excited to be invited to join students from nine elementary schools in Round Rock ISD as well as a number of schools in Austin ISD  at an event to showcase their learning at the Winter Dell Junior Botball Challenge Day on Friday, January 19th. It was a day of fun for the students to come work with their Junior Botball team and complete challenges for all skill levels.

In Jr. Botball, which is now an enrichment class for Live Oak Elementary, students will learn how to write code in the C programming language to help a simple robot navigate and complete different challenges designed by Mr. Sosa. Learning to code improves computational thinking skills and problem solving, which both relate to improved math performance and problem solving skills. Students will also get real-life direct applications of the engineering design process. Participants gain valuable practice with; Critical Thinking, Decision Making, Collaboration, Analytical Skills, Adaptive Learning/Flexibility, Creativity/Innovation and Communication.
