Live Oak’s New Cut on Digital Storytelling

Students in Mrs. Schlung’s 5th grade class were treated to a demo of the school’s newest piece of technology: the Cricut Air Expressions 2.

The campus Instructional Technology Specialist, Mr. Jesse Sosa, wrote a project to be funded on the DonorsChoose.org website for the Cricut. His project would give a unique twist to digital storytelling at Live Oak. With the help of the Cricut students will create tangible versions of their story elements to include in their digital stories.

“The great thing about using the Cricut is that students can create their own customizable designs for their stories. I also hope that this awakens the maker in each student.” -Mr. Sosa

Whether it is vinyl cutouts that they designed for a stop motion story or iron transfers to make costumes to bring their character to life, the Cricut is versatile enough to fit any student’s story element needs. Students will also be able to also incorporate math concepts like measurements and scale into the creation of their designs.

DonorsChoose.org makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
